The Theory of Relativity

The Theory of Relativity (2015) is a contemporary chamber musical by Drama Desk nominees Neil Bartram (music/lyrics) and Brian Hill (book) that explores the interconnected lives of young adults through a series of songs, monologues, and vignettes. Using Albert Einstein’s theory as a metaphor for human connection, the show features an ensemble cast and highlights themes of love, loss, and growing up.

Role: Mike

Oliver, a junior, spends most of his time surrounded by the arts. Outside of school, he's a singer, actor, and dancer. Though the past years haven’t been easy, theater has really helped him grow and find his passion. Through his acting history, his favorite shows that he's done include Anacortes Community Theater's Singin' In The Rain, Sweeney Todd, and Guys and Dolls.

Erik Cardon
Erik Cardon
He/Him

Role: Paul

Erik is a 14-year-old freshman who loves math, English, coding, music, and, most of all, drama. He can't wait to be seen in future plays, with a goal of eventually starring. He is ambitious, of course, taking on multiple projects head on while he still has five more hours of homework to catch up on. He's coding a game, writing a book, practicing for Wind Ensemble auditions, and still manages to get a constant two hours of leisure time to top it all. Look out for Paul, who's allergic to cats.

Her journey began with Singin’ in the Rain at Anacortes Community Theatre, and she has participated in many productions since then.

Among her more cherished roles are those in The Laramie Project, Three Times a Bridesmaid, Seussical, and as Annabeth Chase in The Lightening Thief last year at AHS. When she isn't performing on stage, she enjoys swimming, gaming, and drawing. She would like to thank her incredibly supportive family and friends, whose unwavering encouragement has been crucial to her artistic journey.

Ezekiel Fernandez

Role: Adam

Ezekiel, a senior, has a great passion for the musical arts. Since his mother, whom he thanks forever, forced him into his church's choir about a decade ago, he began to love singing with his whole heart. His journey with musical theatre started last year with Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief at Anacortes High School. When Ezekiel isn't singing, one of his other greatest passions is baking. He eventually wants to create his own recipe books. He also started to learn to play guitar for the very first time.

Role: Mira

Sidra, a junior, is an artist with an interest in the performing, literary, and visual arts.

Despite being in love with several art forms, theatre has her heart, and even from its cold, dead hands, one couldn’t pry it free.

Some of her favorite productions that she has performed in are Shakespeare Northwest’s Much Ado About Nothing as a rotten orange Hero and Conrade; AHS’ Deep Blue Sound, Small Mouth Sounds, and Three Times a Bridesmaid.

He is so excited for the opportunity to perform in another AHS musical after having a blast in The Lightning Thief last spring. The AHS drama program has changed his life, helping him come out of his shell and find community. Endless love and gratitude to the amazing cast and crew, the fabulous Meg, and to my Grandpa, who taught me to appreciate the philosophical and to remember that we are all connected.

Cole Portz is excited to be back on stage in this production. His love for the arts began in third grade when he performed as Young Simba in The Lion King. While he later fell in love with cheerleading, which became a major focus of his time and energy, he is grateful to have found a balance that allows him to pursue both passions. Cole would like to thank his friends, family, and directors for their continued support.

Isobel Stewart (She/her)
Isobel Stewart

Role: Jenny

Isobel is a senior who has spent her life admiring the actors and performers all around her. Her first high school’s production of The Little Mermaid sparked a passion for theater that she never fully realized until she watched the majesty of it unfold around her that day. Watching all of the components of musical theater work together and create a meaningful story became her most favorite thing. She is beyond humbled to get to be a part of it for the first time right here at AHS.

Auxiliary Percussion

Fathom is junior and a very dedicated musician. They have been playing percussion since they could pick up a stick, only starting to play in professional settings three years ago. Furthermore, they have been a concert euphoniumist for six years. They have always loved theater and have a soft spot for musicals. They aren't much of an actor (or singer) but have always wanted to perform in a musical. They had the privilege to perform a small part in the band for The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical last year which made their dreams come true. The Theory of Relativity gives them the opportunity to truly play a large role in a show. They are ecstatic that you choose to support the fine arts in Anacortes. Thank you and enjoy the show!

Bass

Back for her second musical in high school, Wisteria is providing bass for the Theory of Relativity. She was playing drum kit for the Percy Jackson musical in her sophomore year. Wait, how many instruments does this girl play? Anyways, you can't spell Theory of Relativity without one fourth of the word bass, so make sure to listen to her for at least one fourth of the play!

This is her first show she has been cast in so was thrilled to get the role of student director.

Zephrin is in his fourth year of videography and broadcasting, and is the current Executive Producer of the AHS Broadcast Club. Zephrin has been in three plays at Anacortes High School, including Three Times a Bridesmaid, Small Mouth Sounds, and Deep Blue Sound, as well as being in the Drama III class this year.

Despite being in both choir and theater, musicals aren't really Zephrin's thing, but he still values a high-quality recording for the people who do find passion in musicals.

Director

Scott is undeservedly the luckiest man on the face of the earth: five wonderful children, five (+1 on the way) adorable granddaughters, a partner that is his best friend, a job that scratches his creative and intellectual itches, and a life-changing opportunity to work with amazing colleagues and talented, kind student performers. What a lucky guy....

Carole Leander (she/her)

Vocal Director

Carole Leander is in her 25th year teaching five choirs, guitar and AP Music Theory for Anacortes schools. A fabulous perk of the job has also been to work on musical projects after school. She and her husband Jason have two kids and two cats who keep life very entertaining. Skiiing, hiking, gardening and chauffeuring children to their activities are some of her most current hobbies.

Rosalind Huntley (She/her)
Rosalind Huntley

Choreographer

Roz cannot believe her luck in getting to work with the great Dr. Scott Burnett one more time. With each production, she gains appreciation for what it takes to be a successful educator. Mr. Burnett treats his students with respect and perceives them with love. He invites heavy conversations into his classroom while making space for silliness and deep long laughter. Roz fondly remembers her time as a student of Mr. Burnett, feeling seen and supported. He has a way of imparting confidence in one’s own ability to rise to a challenge. In daily life and as a dance teacher, Roz aims to carry forth these same values that have had an indescribable impact on generations of students at AHS. Give ‘em hell, SB!
